Nigerians lose billions of Naira every year to debit card fraud and globally, in 2021 alone, about 32 billion dollars was lost to card fraud. This is why the launch of #TheBetterCard – the safest card in Nigeria – was marked with a lot of excitement.

In the world today, digital has become the present and is undoubtedly the future of payments. With this in view, it is important that the safety of funds is considered a priority. Nigerians lose billions of Naira every year to debit card fraud and globally, in 2021 alone, about 32 billion dollars was lost to card fraud. This is why the launch of #TheBetterCard – the safest card in Nigeria – was marked with a lot of excitement.

In partnership with Mastercard, Eyowo launched its digital-first cards on Tuesday, August 30th, 2022. The event which was hosted at the Eko Novo building at Softcom was well attended by key industry players, partners, influencers and friends of Eyowo, including our brand ambassador, Angel JB Smith. Also present were Nollywood actor Akah Nnani and his wife Claire Idera of CIWorkshop, Larry Gaga, Aderinola Odugbesan-Thomas (Derinfromisaleeko), Noble Igwe, Nicole Chikwe, and many others.

The event started on an interesting note with our Eyowo team welcoming guests and walking them through the experience of better banking. The promise to give Nigerians access to better banking is one that we hold dear and we believe that there should be no barrier to this access. With your phone number as your account number, Eyowo gives everyone an opportunity to experience “Better.” Speaking about the Eyowo bank accounts at the event, Omoseindemi Olobayo, the CEO of Eyowo, emphasized the role inclusion played in building this product. “We had to cover every Nigerian without a bank account. We believe that your identity for financial inclusion is your phone number because it is inclusive by design.”

“Eyowo provides for multidimensional banking: having multiple accounts (personal and business, even joint accounts) in one app. Savings, transfers, budget controls, etc, all from one place.” — Omoseindemi Olobayo, CEO Eyowo.

The delectable Awazi Angbalaga hosted the event, engaging the attendees with questions about their expectations from Eyowo and its newly launched Better Card.

Kari Tukur, Vice President & Head Customer Solutions, East & West Africa for MasterCard, who was impressed with the transfer to phone number option available on Eyowo also said, “Eyowo set the pace for digital changes in the market and with the Eyowo card, they have brought safety, comfort, and peace of mind to users.” Speaking of the Eyowo X Mastercard partnership, Kari re-emphasized Eyowo’s drive for financial inclusion and flexibility as values that made this partnership an easy decision.

With the unveiling of #TheBetterCard – a sleek, numberless card designed with safety and ease in mind, Eyowo users will now be able to make online and offline payments with no card charges or maintenance fees. To get the card, all you have to do is request it via the app and if you qualify, it will be delivered to your selected location within 5-7 working days at zero cost to you.
